COM Utilities is a collection of what we consider 'useful' applications for a COM developer.  These tools are provided free of charge, and we hope you find them as useful as we do.  

Type Library Viewer
The type library viewer is a namespace extension that lives under the 'My Computer' branch in explorer.   It lists all of the type libraries registered on the local machine, and provides a colour coded decompiled version of the associated IDL in the right hand explorer plan, which can be viewed and saved.

Some of the key features of this tool include:
- Can remove registry entries for non existant type libraries
- The IDL decompiler will give DISPID symbols for common dispids
- The IDL decompiler will check the type libs for common 'standard' interfaces and structs and flag these as possible problems when compiling the IDL

The IDL decompiler Lists the type lib creation date and midl version (for type libs that support this)

Can save the idl to disk

Supports [custom] attributes

DLL/EXE/RGS Context Menu Handlers
When you install Vivid's COM utilities, you will find that a number of context menu handlers are added to explorer.  

When right clicking on a DLL or EXE file, you will be given options to register or unregister that file as a COM server.  If the registration process fails for any reason, you will be prompted with the returned HRESULT error code, along with a readable error message.

Right clicking on an RGS ( ATL Registrar Script ) file will provide options to run the script, registering or unregistering the settings.  

Class/Typelib Property Sheet Handler
Probably the most basic utility provided, the class/typelib property sheet handler adds an additional property page to explorer for DLL & EXE files.  What the page shows is the classes and typelibs in the registery that are associated with the selected file.    This tool is basically useful if your unsure whether or not it has been registered.

ExamDiff
ExamDiff is a FREEWARE Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP tool for visual file comparison. It has a number of simple and convenient features that many users have been asking for a long time from a file comparison tool. Here is what an ExamDiff screen after comparing files may look like:

Features
- Remembers a user specified number of last compared first and second files. This allows quick selection of the two files the user wishes to compare
- There is no need to specify both filenames -- just enter a directory name for one of the files to be compared. EximDiff will try to use an entered filename with a specified directory name
- Toggles between the first and second files
- Automatically detects file changes and prompts the user to re-compare files
- One push re-compare function which attempts to leave the viewer's focus in the same place as before the re-compare
- Drag and drop support for dropping one or two files into the program's window (e.g. from Windows Explorer)
- Easy editing of the first and second files. ExamDiff will spawn any editor (configurable by the user) with the first or second file, and line number option (available for editors that support this, through ExamDiff variables: $FILE (first or second file name), $CURFIFF (number of line at which the current difference starts), and $CARET (number of line where the caret is located))

- Simple "Search" command to search for strings in the comparison panes. It also remembers a user specified number of most recent searches
- Customizable text and background colors, font, tab size, and "Show Differences Only" option as well as options to "Ignore white spaces in lines", "Ignore changes in amount of white spaces in lines", "Ignore case",  "Treat files as text files", "Ignore leading white space in lines" and "Ignore trailing white space in lines" for comparison
- Fully customizable file extension filter. For example, the user can choose only .c and .cpp files or any other files  he/she chooses to be displayed
- Tooltips which include file properties (when the mouse cursor is placed over the pane title bars), difference number (when the cursor is over the yellow triangle marking the current difference), and etc
- Adjustable pane splitter with smooth synchronized scrolling. Allows easy toggling between horizontal and vertical splitter orientation as well as splitter centering and panes hiding
- Command line options include:  
    Usage: ExamDiff [Filename1] [Filename2] [Options] Filename1, Filename2 are names of files to be compared  
       Options are any of:    
         -> /i  ignore case  
         -> /w ignore all white space in lines
         -> /b ignore changes in amount of white space in lines
         -> /l ignore leading white space in lines
         -> /e  ignore trailing white space in lines
         -> /t treat both files as text files
         -> /d show differences only
         -> /n don't show initial "Compare Files" dialog
         -> /aN scroll trough all differences with N second delay and exit after the last difference
         -> /?,/h print this screen

  
        NOTE: if options /i, /w, /b, /l, /e, /t, or /d are not set, the last used options remain in effect.

Dependency Walker 2.1

Dependency Walker is a free utility that scans any 32-bit or 64-bit Windows module (exe, dll, ocx, sys, etc.) and builds a hierarchical tree diagram of all dependent modules. For each module found, it lists all the functions that are exported by that module, and which of those functions are actually being called by other modules. Another view displays the minimum set of required files, along with detailed information about each file including a full path to the file, base address, version numbers, machine type, debug information, and more.

Dependency Walker is also very useful for troubleshooting system errors related to loading and executing modules. Dependency Walker detects many common application problems such as missing modules, invalid modules, import/export mismatches, circular dependency errors, mismatched machine types of modules, and module initialization failures.

Dependency Walker runs on Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, and XP. It can process any 32-bit or 64-bit Windows module, including ones designed for Windows CE. It can be run as graphical application or as a console application. Dependency Walker handles all types of module dependencies, including implicit, explicit (dynamic / runtime), forwarded, delay-loaded, and injected. A detailed help is included.

Dependency Walker is completely free to use. However, you may not profit from the distribution of it, nor may you bundle it with another product.

WinSQL Lite is a database client that can connect to any database through ODBC. It provides an interface that allows you to run queries, create tables, browse data, edit/insert records and more. The multi-tabbed interface allows you to manage multiple queries and switch between the results. WinSQL Lite also offers syntax highlighting for SQL scripts and can display query results in in grid or a text box. You can even export your results to a template based HTML page using a wizard interface. Additional wizards are offered for Update/Insert and New table. A Pro version is also available that offers some additional features like database specific plug-ins, data export, catalog printing and more. The Lite version however will be perfectly suited for the average users, it can connect to virtually any database that supports generic ODBC connections. The key to licensing ActiveX controls for use on the Internet and intranets is license support in the browser. Internet Explorer uses a "License Package" or .LPK file to manage ActiveX control licensing. This file can be created with the LPKTOOL.EXE utility. LPK Tool allows multiple components to be added into one license file and also allows specification of the name and location for the resulting .LPK file.

System requirements:
- Internet Explorer 3.0 or later
- Windows 95 or later; or Windows NT 4.0 or later
- 300 KB disk space

What is this ?
This tool automatically converts Visual C++ 7.0 projects back to Visual C++ 6.0 projects. In other words, .sln/.vcproj file pairs are translated to .dsw/.dsp file pairs.

Important note, there is no loss during the conversion : source code is left unchanged ; only .dsw/.dsp are created (or overwritten).

Why ?
First of all because MS doesn't provide it. It's easy to become cynical against MS when you feel how bad it is to sell developer tools without all the necessary "moulinettes" (converters in ugly english) to go backward.

Without this tool, you end up recreating your projects from scratch : a total waste of time, and prone to errors. Actually there are several scenarios where this tool is useful :
- Someone gives you a VC++ 7 project, and you only have VC++ 6 installed.
- You have upgraded your project(s) from VC++6 to VC++7, and you have both .dsw/.dsp and .sln/.vcproj files on your local system drive, but you are willing to keep those files synchronized so any time you need to open the project, you need not bother the VC++ version you work with.
- Provide both versions of projects (for instance when you share code in CodeProject), so your audience do not need to bother which devtool is required.

Stie cineva o unealta asemanatoare cu Intel Thread Checker da care sa fie mai ieftina sau open source/free si care sa-si merite investitia?

stie cineva vreu program de facut schite la garduri din fir forjat ,inafara de autocad .Am gasit ceva pe net "arteferro cad" dar nu este free. daca stiti alt program free va rog ajutati-ma.
