French Muslims split over start of Ramadan despite prior accord on date
An agreement in France to set the start of Ramadan according to scientific calculations fell apart on Tuesday when many mosques opted to wait, as the new moon was not yet visible to the naked eye here or in the Middle-East.

The Islamic lunar calendar is 10 to 11 days shorter than the solar Gregorian one developed in Europe, so the Muslim holy month starts a week and a half earlier each year, when a new crescent moon is seen.

Muslim groups in northern Paris suburbs and the city of Lyon said on Monday they would wait until Wednesday to start fasting after they failed to sight the new moon by traditional direct observation and Saudi, Egyptian and North African Islamic authorities in France reported the same problem. (Oh da, fantastică problemă... )

Other Muslim groups stuck to the agreement to start Ramadan on Tuesday, causing confusion among France’s 5 million Muslims.

“This is something really important, it’s one of the pillars of Islam, and it’s forbidden to mess around with that,” Ouahlid Beliouze said at the Paris Grand Mosque where he went after hearing about the confusion on the radio.

Muslims elsewhere in Europe often start Ramadan according to its beginning in their countries of origin, or in Saudi Arabia. That can lead to different ethnic groups starting it on different days, even in the same country.

The real issue here is not his hypocrisy. There are hypocrites and people who fail to live up to their religious ideals in all religions, all over the world. The real issue here is that the Sharia prohibition against music, which the Grand Mufti endorsed and applied in his fatwa, is contrary to the human spirit. It would be hard not to become a hypocrite if one actually believed in this prohibition, because music is so irresistibly attractive and so nourishing to the human soul. So the Grand Mufti shouldn't be criticized for enjoying the concert -- that's just human nature. But the fact that he enjoyed it shows us something quite important about Sharia.

Evreii religiosi voteaza peste 80% dreapta, cei intelectuali peste 70% stanga, e un fapt. Sigur ca vezi multi in fruntea initiativelor stangiste, si auzi mult de ei, pe cand de ailalti, mai putin.

Ca in cazul tuturor lunilor islamice (bazate pe calendarul lunar), Ramadanul incepe exact in seara cand apare luna noua. Desi echipamentele avansate de astazi permit calcularea cu exactitate a datei aparitiei, multe tari musulmane prefera inca vechea traditie de observare a lunii pe cer. Daca Luna Noua este observabila in a 29-a zi a Shabaan-ului, atunci a doua zi incepe Ramadan-ul. In caz contrar, atunci Shabaan (luna calendaristica dinaintea Ramadan-ului) va avea 30 de zile iar Ramadan-ul incepe imediat dupa.
Observarea lunii a fost mereu un eveniment important. In Cairo secolelor 7-10 e. n judecatorul suprem se folosea de dealurile Moqattam pentru observatii iar mai tarziu a fost construit chiar si un observator pe aceleasi inaltimi, in scopul de a determina exact fazele lunii si momentele care marcheaza inceputul si sfarsitul Ramadan-ului.

ca tot eram eu curios de ramadan .... cume cu mancatul carnii la musulmani nu mananca deloc sau doar in timpul ramadanului ?

din pacate, plina de victime, de lupte si de incertitudine in lumea musulmana si in general.

De maine incepe Kurban Bayram sau Sarbatoarea sacrificiului.
sacrificatii sunt berbecii sau taurii, dar sunt multe alte ,mancaruri traditionale ce sunt pastrate de musulmanii din Dobrogea
de sute de ani.
