În 2004, grupul francez, lider european în producția de foi metalice și de tablă perforată, a delocalizat o parte din producția de sârmă de la Timișoara.

"În contextul acutal negativ din piața auto", grupul a decis să întrerupă producția. "Această măsură duce la disponibilizarea a 170 de angajați din România și pune capăt unei serii de pierderi ale grupului", arată un comunicat al companiei.

PSA Plans to Drop 6,000 Jobs


The French automotive group PSA Peugeot-Citroen announced through the voice of its chairman, Philippe Varin, that the group plans to reduce its number of workers by 6,000 in France until 2012.

That represents about 10 percent of the workforce the company has in France. In a report from just-auto.com, Philippe Varin mentioned the automotive group’s plan will boost productivity by 20 percent and will be accomplished through non-replacement of workers who will voluntarily leave the company by retiring.

Varin insisted the company will not proceed with any other restructuring plan. From the beginning of the year, PSA launched a voluntary departure scheme for non-production staff, which by the end of October this year, stretched to include productive workforce as well. The result was a 4,800 job cut.

The group’s chairman said job cuts this year for PSA worldwide, including its auto parts unit Faurecia, reached 13,000.

PSA’s shares surged yesterday, after the group announced it raised its earning forecast for 2009. "Due to recent improvement in the automobile market and the ongoing success of the new Peugeot and Citroen models, the group's production and sales performance is significantly stronger than forecast," revealed a company statement.

With the company looking to further increase its market share in China, where all the automotive groups aim to be now, PSA reported a loss of EUR962m (USD1.44bn) in the first six months of the year.

PSA forecasted a 30 percent higher fourth quarter output than the same period last year and up 17 percent over the third quarter. This means the operating income for the second half is expected to break even and the cash flow for the whole year is set to be positive.

Toyota F1 Fires 500 People at Cologne

Toyota's withdrawal from the Formula One Championship has not remained without consequences. Following the announcement made by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) regarding the 2010 F1 entry list,   confirming Sauber F1's presence on the grid, Toyota today announced that it shed no less than 500 jobs at their F1 facility in Cologne.

Such a decision was somehow expected by the media, especially since the Japanese manufacturer decided to pull the plug on their F1 operations at the end of the 2009 season. However, recent reports linked Toyota to a potential sellout of its operations to Stefan GP (a Serbian outift) that could have save at least some of those 500 jobs already scheduled for the scrapping scheme.

“Andy Fuchs, the communications and marketing boss, told the German news agency DPA on Friday that a remaining 150 staff will stay employed for the site's ongoing projects, including sports tuning of road cars and the development of non-F1 racing cars,” said a report from the GMM news agency earlier today.

“The 500 departing staff will receive termination payments and partial salaries for up to a year,” added the report, citing the same Toyota official. Therefore, Toyota Motorsport GmbH has remained with only 150 employed people at Cologne.

Although terminating their operations in Formula One, Toyota repeatedly insisted it doesn't plan to sell its factory at Cologne, as it plans to set off programmes in lower series in the near future. As a result, Toyota also refused to sell the design of their TF110, the car which the team had already prepared for the 2010 season.

According to several allegations, Toyota received several offers for it – especially from the newly-entries – but still decided to keep it within the factory.

Opel CEO Denies More European Job Cuts



Opel/Vauxhall CEO Nick Reilly said in a statement that there is no plan to go beyond the initial 8,300 job cutting plan in Europe, despite claims from unions that    approximately 2,000 more employees are at risk. After a meeting with the company's European Employee representatives, Reilly emphasized that the 2,000 extra job cut was only concerning the "employees who had already signed up to a pre-retirement part-time program in 2006 in Germany".

“Some of the actions we need to take are unfortunate and tough, but the reality is that we have to act,” he said.

"It is inexplicable that the plan includes more job cuts that have been covered up until now. We see this as absolutely insincere," labor chief Klaus Franz told reporters according to an Autonews report.

Talking about the Antwerp situation and commenting on the possibility to be sued by Belgium unions, Reilly explained that building an SUV at the local plant was only a plan, so the US-based manufacturer can't be accused of breaching a contract.

"Frequent repetition of the claim that the company was allegedly in breach of a contract does not make that claim any more true. This document clearly spelled out that building a small SUV in Antwerp was a plan. Given the dramatic change in the overall economy this plan had to be changed," he explained.

Additionally, Reilly said that GM is also injecting its own money in Opel, thus denying claims that the parent company is waiting for state funds to begin restructuring.

"Another claim - made after the meeting – that GM was not participating in the funding of New Opel is also wrong. Already at the end of last year, GM contributed € 600 million to the funding plan. This amount has always been part of the € 3.3 billion funding requirements that were communicated from the outset," he concluded.
