These so-called “smartphones” are really becoming a piece of work! It’s not just the typical mobile phone that they are inadvertently putting off the scale, but other current smartphones as well.
When you look at the upcoming Kyocera 7135 smartphone, it may just seem like another competing product on the market - with the likes of the Handspring Treo 270 and O2 XDA. On closer inspection, you won’t find the Kyocera just coming with Palm OS v4.1 and its built-in applications - but the inclusion of functionality that will truly enable you to be all that “wireless” Let’s work our way in. The 7135 comes in a folder design, with the screen on the top section and the keypad and Graffiti area located below this. It comes with a high-resolution, 65,000-colour screen which makes viewing graphics a real pleasure and also being one of the very first Palm PDA phone devices to feature this technology. A mini, external caller ID display allows for a caller’s name to be known before actually picking up the phone (should be located at the top section of the phone next to the antenna). The expansion slot allows for the addition of memory and other devices. Other neat features include tri-mode capability (CDMA digital PCS, CDMA digital cellular and analog), data downloads at speeds of up to 153 kbps (CDMA2000 1X technology), wireless fax and modem capabilities, IR port, speakerphone feature and a GPS locator. Of course, some of these features will require the network supporting them. As previously stated, the Kyocera 7135 comes with Palm OS v4.1, which includes the basic PIM applications and HotSync - with the ability to synchronise with Microsoft Outlook. Additional applications include a media player (with the ability of playing back MP3 audio and a range of still and motion video types), Internet browser supporting both WAP and HTML, and the built-in Eudora Mail software allowing the sending and receiving of e-mail while on the go. All this sounds very exciting, and will probably come at a high price on its initial release. So far, Kyocera has not given any official dates when the 7135 smartphone will hit store shelves. We hope the wait will not be too long though! Fiiere ataate |
