in productie am avut experiente tare neplacute cu kernelele 2.4.x vanilla. nu m-as lauda prea tare cu ele pe aci ;)

daca nu stii sa configurezi un kernel, normal ca ai probleme cu el...
si depinde ce 2.4.x... mie mi s-au parut super stabile.

hahaha, adica kernel panic?
pai hai sa le luam pe rand:
1.  code maturity : normal ca nu e bifat sa compilez si aberatii experimentale
2. modules support: none (prietenii stiu de ce)
3. processor : p3 , high mem (4g ca doar nu stau sa ma uit la cei 2gb din server degeaba), mtrr (prietenii stiu de ce), SMP (figures)
4. aci sunt cam default
5. plug and play : off (doar nu crezi ca am isa-uri prin server)
6. block device : doar DAC960 (nema floapa)
7. scsi/atapi: none (doar nu am mylex? :) )
8. multiple device/raid : none
9. networking options: tcp/ip + netfilter
10. fs : ext2

cam atat . aceasi configuratie am rulat in productie (adica peste 100k useri de web si mail, 60 sesiuni ftp active, 30 imap, 20 pop3, 35 smtpd-uri, aprox 100k trimiteri de mail pe zi, 5 mil pagini de web vizitate pe zi):
- 2.4.5 : crapa in 2 ore jumate
- 2.4.9 : tine cam 3 zile si ceva
- 2.4.10 : 2 zile
- 2.4.13 : 2 zile
- 2.4.9-31 (kernel de RedHat, AC sa traiasca) : nonstop ;)

deci unde vroiam sa ajung este ca NU era din cauza ca l-am configurat eu prost. lol, configurez kernele de linux de la 2.0.27 (hehe ce vremuri) ci pur si simplu 2.4.x NU este asa stabil cum vor toti, dar asta se vede doar in utilizari extreme. ca si eu am avut pe computerul de la servici orice kernel de la 2.2.x incoa si ca nu  a crapat nici unul nu inseamna ca 2.4.x rules, ci doar ca nu l-ai stresat enough.
