ROSA Desktop 2012.1

A aparut varianta Release Candidate pentru ROSA Desktop 2012.1, deoarece nu vor mai fi modificari substantiale in cele 2 saptamani ramase pana la lasarea variantei finale, topicul o sa ramana si pentru final adaugand specificatiile variantei finale cand aceasta o sa fie lansata.

Software updates
Kernel 3.6.7 with nrj patches to improve work at Desktops. Vanilla, PAE and RT kernels are available in repositories, as well.
Kernels with CK1 +BFS +BFQ +TOI support are prepared, as well
XServer 13 with the latest drivers. When migrating to a new version, we have tried to preserve support for old video cards as much as possible.

The latest versions of firmware and proprietary drivers are available in repositories, as well.

Boot
EFI/UEFI support is integrated in the main ISO images (a signed loader to work with SecureBoot is expected to appear in the release).
After installation, GRUB2 automatically detects and sets up the best screen resolution for the system
Install in basic mode boot item is added to be able to launch installer on as many hardware as possible. Use this mode if you are experiencing problems with normal mode.
Live and Install modes use text-mode plymouth theme to speed up booting.
Bot services are optimized to speed up overall system boot time
Added items to enable hibernating

Hardware
A set of issues with hardware detection was solved:
Improved support for modern devices and graphic cards
Fixed problem with OSS functionality. Use cuse and ossp to work with OSS.
Fixed issues with Synaptic touchpads.
Fixed a set of issues with printer detection.
Reworked firmaware handling and loading. In particular, now proper wi-fi modules are always loaded correctly and wi-fi work is much more stable.
Improved work with modems. Implemented request for PIN code.
Improved stability of network connections managed by NetworkManager. Fixed issues with DNS record handling.

KDE4 and ROSA Tools
Plasma Desktop load time is decreased significantly (the gain varies from 30% to 40% depending on hardware configuration).
Totally renewed graphic theme:
new GRUB2 them. ROSA patches for GRUB2 developed to make it possible to apply such a theme are pushed to Upstream;
New Plymouth theme.
KSplash, KDM and desktop now use unified themes.
More then 30 new items are added to ROSA brand-name set of icons. In addition, icons were improved for better integration not only with KDE, but with GNOME 3, to.
QgtkStyleAlt theme engined developed by ROSA is enhanced with possibilities to drag windows of KDE applications by menu and toolbar without a need to press any additional acceleration keys.
ROSA brand-name desktop theme is reworked significantly: the appearance became more contemporary, the areas that can be used to drag a window are now highlighted explicitly, and so on;
Lots of improvements in the major component of semantic desktop - TimeFrame 2.0:
Added possibility to send messages to social networking services (these features are not included in the ISO image at the moment but available in repositories);
fixed issue which allowed to post empty comments for messages;
renewed graphical theme;
overall refactoring was performed which allowed to improve speed and response time.
A lot of optimizations and new features have been implemented in SimpleWelcome 2.0:
optimized work with groups - now it's much more easier to add end remove icons from groups;
added possibility to fasten recently launched applications at the "Welcome" tab;
added possibility to clean the list of recently used documents;
implemented pop-up windows with hints for icons;
now if you have screen resolution of 1920x1080 or higher, the group preview includes 9 icons;
implemented work with system DnD (Drag and Drop);
fixed lots of issues, improved design, performed overall code refactoring, improved speed and response time. .
KLook is updated to 2.0, the new features include:
Possibility to work with remote file systems using SMB, WebDav, FTP and other popular protocols. If the file being opened with KLook is an image or multimedia file then it is automatically downloaded to a temporary place and displayed, otherwise general information about the file is displayed.
Lots of optimizations were performed in the rendering process that allowed to significantly increase quality of the image shown.
Many issues and errors are fixed in the RocketBar panel:
thanks to different optimizations, RocketBar now consumes less resources;
implemented correct integration of LibreOffice and Mozilla Thunderbird applications.
In the StackFolder tool, several issues were fixed and memory leaks were detected and eliminated when working with images of large size.
ROSA Media Player has got a renewed graphical theme and several bug fixes:
Fixed issues with rendering of background of a video playback window;
fixed issue with streaming mms-video playback (both in the player itself and in the Internet browser integration plugin);
dropped ISO files support in ROMP for Windows;
for DVD devices the /dev/cdrom device file is used by default if /dev/dvd is absent in the system.

Tools and Configuration
Drakx Tools
improved detection of graphic cards and monitors. Proprietary drivers are now correctly configured automatically, including necessary options for Grub2;
improved detection of keyboard possibilities;
when adding repositories, all available sources are activated by default- Main, Contrib, Non-free and Restricted;
fixed bug with switching keyboard layouts in virtual consoles;
ROSA Control Center (drackonf) is replaced with a set of corresponding tools in the KDE4 Control Center;
the work has been started on refactoring of drakx tools aimed to their actualization and improvement;
Fixed issues with Samba in KDE4;
The KDE4 Font Settings modules now has possibility to disable bytecode interpreter. This allows to improve appearance of some fonts in cases when sub-pixel rendering is not used.

User Software
Fixed issue with InkScape crashing in some situations when displaying "Open File" and similar dialogue windows.
A new YouMagic application - a SIP-client developed by МТТ mobile operator - is added to the default ISO image.
Default ISO image now contains popular games - KMines, KLines and KPatience.

SURSA

Lista noutatilor e impresionanta, l-am instalat configurat si e ok, inca nu am petrecut suficient timp in el insa pare sa fie ok.
Sistemul asta chiar lipsea de pe piata, ROSA Marathon este un LTS (deci conservator - dar stabil), ROSA Desktop este opusul (bleeding edge - ultimele noutati, momentan stabil cu ceea ce vine el)

Cine se mai ofera sa incerce, astept pareri... In plus este interesant daca din utilizatorii de *buntu vor face pasul catre ROSA tinand cont ca Canonical nu se dezminte de Unity iar ROSA care e pe KDE integreaza foarte bine totul, personal consider ca reediteaza succesul Ubuntu 10.10 ...
In plus exista si comunitatea locala unde puteti gasi suport deci nu este nimic de speriat daca ceva nu merge, puteti intreba.
Acum va doresc spor la descarcat (il gasiti AICI) si instalat, sa auzim pareri dupa

Cum se ințelege cu plăcile video AMD?

Ca orice alta distributie Linux, daca ai parte de un AMD mai nou ai sanse bune sa gasesti drivere, daca in schimb ai ceva vechi (cazul meu X1100) te multumesti cu driverele legacy... Cel mai sigur faci un stick si rulezi in mod live, te lamuresti repede daca este ok pentru placa ta.

cum adica drivere legacy, vrei sa spui drivere opensource....

Legacy sau opensource = same shit.
Sunt drivere care au fost create candva dar nu mai beneficiaza de actualizari si sunt folosite asa cum au fost mostenite...
Pana la urma si astea dispar incet, incet... Cei care fac distributiile uneori nu-si mai bat capul cu ele si problemele generate, placile fiind prea vechi le scot suportul pur si simplu.
Deci e chestie de noroc, daca merge sau nu pe o placa AMD.

nu este chiar asa. eu am driver legacy pe W7(ati mobility radeon x1270) si merge excelent. ultima actualizare a fost facuta in 2010....dar pentru 1% cine sa-si mai bata capul.

O luam pe campii, nu e nimeni interesat de driverele de windows, aici am deschis un topic sa vorbim despre ceea ce se vrea o varianta de ROSA care sa aibe in permanenta cele mai noi programe, dupa cum se vede pleaca la drum "dotata" cu Linux Kernel 3.6.7nrj, KDE 4.9.4 *ultima varianta, Firefox & Thunderbird 17, Chrome 23, GRUB 2 (spre deosebire de ROSA Marathon care foloseste GRUB legacy), o sa mai suporte in varianta finala si instalarea pe masini cu U/EFI in paralel cu Windows 8 deoarece are certificat SecureBoot.
Despre asta vorbim aici, de pe ROSA Desktop aka 2012.1 in cazul meu.
L.E. Apropo, nu va speriati ca nu musca prea multe resurse... Ruleaza in 650-750 MB RAM cu Opera  (8 tab-uri pornite), Pidgin, Skype, Amarock, qBittorrent, K3B... Cred ca este decent

@13YTe: mulțumesc, bună prezentare! Chiar se mișcă foarte ok, suport hardware excelent (moștenirea Mandriva!), consum resurse decent (mie-mi ia între 800- 1200 MB Ram cu Firefox cu flash, efecte 3d kwin, ktorrent, etc, fără 3D kwin scade la 500-700 MB), au micșorat timpul de boot față de Marathon, touchpad-ul scrollează acum orizontal și vertical , șamd. Merită încercat de începători categoric!!! MCC rulz, system settings la fel, și bunica se descurcă pe Rosa!

Nu vă așteptați să meargă pe hardware antic! Rosa nu e Puppy sau LFS, nu recuperează deșeuri, nici Ubuntu nu o face, e pentru mașini contemporane, cât de cât decente, măpcar 1 GB Ram și dual-core, e un sistem modern și performant, cere resurse decente, nu P III și 512 MB Ram...
Și-a doua chestie: scuzele mele dar nu-i bleeding edge, vrei bleeding-edge pui Arch (Kde 4.10!!!), cu mediile [testing] și [community-testing], Rosa e axată pe stabilitate, cu pachetele cele mai noi stabile, testate. Oricum, excelentă prezentarea, păcat că nu spionează userii să atragă ubuntiștii...

ROSA Desktop.Fresh 2012 differs from its predecessors a lot. This platform was developed by ROSA company as an area for experiments with the freshest software components. The distribution is considered to be an experimental one and primarily contains freshest versions of user software and system tools. In addition, there will be no strict rules on package uptaes during the distribution life cycle.

Au aparut dupa cum era normal si modificari:
- actualmente kernel-ul folosit este 3.6.10 (*probabil in cateva zile o sa se treaca la 3.7 datorita intreruperii suport-ului pentru seria 3.6 la release-ul 11)
- UEFI este activ, deci puteti instala ROSA DESKTOP FRESH 2012 in paralel cu Windows 8 pe masini cu UEFI
+ alte mici modificari.

Resurse minime necesare:
780 MB RAM (recomandat 2GB)
10 GB spatiu liber pe HDD
Monitor cu o rezolutie minima de 1024x768
Keyboard, mouse
DVD/USB FLASH pentru instalare
Placi video: NVIDIA 8xxx si superioare, ATI/AMD 5xxx si superioare, Intel 965 si superioare (HD series).
Suportul pentru placi video mai vechi este oferit numai in limita disponibilitatii unor drivere gratuite, dar poate lipsi in cazul unor modele.

Pentru a face un stick de instalare/rulare in mod live cu ROSA puteti folosi tool-ul dedicat ROSA IMAGE WRITER descarcat de AICI.

pe netbook ar merge la rezolutia 1024x600???

Teoretic din ceea ce spun ei NU, practic cred ca o sa mearga (GRUB-ul din ce vad eu stie de 1024x600) dar o sa ai probleme cu SimpleWelcome 2.0 *meniul cu aplicatiile, dar pe acesta il poti inlocui cu orice alt launcher doresti, Application Launcher (QML) este o varianta mai traditionala.
Descarca-l, pune-l pe un stick si booteaza in mod live, vezi daca merge, daca da... baga o instalare si dupa pune-ti alt launcher SimpleWelcome nu o sa lucreze bine la acea rezolutie, aplicatiile o sa apara aiurea mai mult ca sigur.

ok! am reuşit să instalez rosaaaa! şi totul decurge normal pe netbook, deocamdată! am o nelămurire cu update sistem...cum se face din consolă???

Da cu conditia sa ai mediile instalate deja.
Comanda de update este: urpmi --auto-update -a sau urpmi --auto-select -a

Am incercat sa instalez si eu Rosa Linux LTS. Dupa ce creez partitiile si instalare se termina imi apare sa configurez bootloader sa booteze de pe HDD (dev/sda), dupa ce dau finish imi apare un mesaj de eroare in genu: "bootloader has encountered a error .: "

@alexsama: Salut, dă ceva detalii, instalezi de pe stick usb sau dvd? La ce viteză ai scris dvd-ul? Indicat e o viteză mică, 4x sau 8x. Ai verificat suma MD5? Știi ce e aia? Citește te rog ghidul de instalare- configurare Mandriva, Rosa e fork Mandriva și sunt extrem de asemănătoare: http://www.mandrivausers.ro/ghid

Deasemenea ar fi indicat să postezi tot textul erorii. Dacă ignori eroarea și termini instalarea ce se întâmplă? Dacă ai terminat instalarea dar nu-ți apare bootloaderul Grub cu opțiuni de boot în Rosa și windows (sau ce sisteme ai), dacă ai windows poți instala EasyBCD http://www.softpedia...s/EasyBCD.shtml din windows, dacă ai alt Linux poți pasa manual intrarea Rosa în Grub-ul acestuia.

Salut, DVD-ul a fost scris la viteza maxima, md5 din cate stiu este folosit de a verifica autenticitatea la ceea ce ai descarcat sau ceva de genu?.

Am urmat ghidul de inslarea de aici, cand ajung la pasul asta, imi da eroarea respectiva:

Am incercat si cu EasyBCD, asa faceam ca sa adaug Ubuntu la lista de SO, dar in cazul asta imi apare eroare daca incerc sa bootez de pe noua intrare (probabil din cauza ca acea eroare a impiedicat instalarea normala), cu toate ca in windows in disk management imi figureaza partitia root si swap.

Incerc cu un alt dvd si cu viteza mai mica. O sa fac si o poza la eroare daca mai apare.
