Volkswagen back in first place in Europe Customers enthusiastic about model offensive Wolfsburg, 23 December 2005 - Volkswagen is back in first place in Europe. Measured by the number of new vehicle registrations, the brand has regained first place in 2005. "Volkswagen is a powerful brand. We are now harvesting the rewards of our model offensive", claimed Dr Wolfgang Bernhard, Chairman of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen brand in Wolfsburg. "Our models are exciting customers across Europe. That gives us a tailwind for the year ahead," Bernhard stressed. Between January and November, the European Automobile Association (ACEA) noted 1.416 million new vehicle registrations for the Volkswagen brand in Europe (EU 23 + EFTA). "That is a lead that the competition will not be able to catch up in the last month of the year," said Bernhard. In November alone, 129,000 vehicles of the brand were registered. That gives Volkswagen a market share of 11.1 percent in November, some 1.7 percentage points more than the second place. http://eng.volkswage...ntlichkeit.html Edited by SCANIA FREAK, 12 January 2006 - 20:29. |

china devina a doua piata automobilistica mondiala dupa statele unite reusind sa depaseasca japonia.
Quote Statistics from the China Automotive Industry Association (CAIA) indicate that China has surpassed Japan as the world's second-largest auto market, behind the U.S. More than 5.9 million automobiles were sold in China in 2005, while 5.8 million were sold in Japan. Of those, 5.76 million were domestically produced, and the remainder imported. The number has risen dramatically from 2001, when 2.73 million units were sold; China now represents 8.7 per cent of global sales, up from 4.3 per cent in 2001. China also accounted for 23.2 per cent of total global growth in 2005. The top three automakers in China are First Automotive Works (983,100 units in 2005), Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (917,500 units) and Dongfeng Motor Corporation (729,000). Among imports, sales of GM and its joint ventures jumped 35 per cent in 2005 to 665,390 units, giving the automaker an estimated market share of 11.2 per cent in China. |

Quote Reuters is reporting that Saab lost more than $300 million in 2005, up considerably from its $200 million loss in 2004. The losses are all the more daunting because Saab posted record unit sales in Europe, its core market. We can expect that GM's most vocal investor, Kirk Kerkorian's Tracinda Corp., will renew its call for GM to cut its losses and dump the Swedish brand. What are Saab's turnaround prospects? Perhaps encouraged by Saab's new models, GM Europe's president Carl-Peter Forster is pinning his hopes on higher unit sales in 2006, plus cost cutting and productivity improvements. |

Quote Automobile manufacturer Smart has been embroiled in rumors about the brand's future for some time now. Will the Lilliputian carmaker be sold in the U.S.? Will it ever turn a profit? Will DaimlerChrysler close the brand, or simply load it on a trailer and sell it to someone else? According to an article to be released Monday by Automotive News Europe, the company is reportedly in discussions with Piaggio, an Italian firm best known for its motorized bikes-n-trikes (it owns Vespa, Moto Guzzi, and Aprilia, among others). According to the article, DCX has asked a 'very reasonable price' for the brand, including the company's Hambach plant and plans for future models. The scooter and light commercial trucklet concern is reportedly hoping to shift production to India if its bid is successful. For its part, DCX says that it doesn't have plans to sell the microcar company to Piaggio, and asserts only that it is looking for partnerships, not outright sales. |
