Am pus o aplicație pe telefon să văd noi descoperiri în științe expuse din reviste gen "nature physics" sau de pe site-uri gen arxiv. Dacă mderatorii sunt de acord as vrea să facem un topic in care sa punem cercetările , descoperirile sau studiile ai căror autori sunt români sau participă si români. Tocmai ce am intalnit pe aplicația aceea o cercetare la care participă si un român numit catalin harnagea in domeniul fotonilor si opticii. Pastuiesc aici abstract-ul lucrării in engleză (scuze dar google translate e execrabil) si las si link. Dacă moderatorii vor să țină topicul bine dacă nu il pot inchide direct.

Inorganic ferroelectric perovskites are attracting attention for the realization of highly stable photovoltaic cells with large open-circuit voltages. However, the power conversion efficiencies of devices have been limited so far. Here, we report a power conversion efficiency of ~4.20% under 1 sun illumination from Bi–Mn–O composite thin films with mixed BiMnO3 and BiMn2O5 crystal phases. We show that the photocurrent density and photovoltage mainly develop across grain boundaries and interfaces rather than within the grains. We also experimentally demonstrate that the open-circuit voltage and short-circuit photocurrent measured in the films are tunable by varying the electrical resistance of the device, which in turn is controlled by externally applying voltage pulses. The exploitation of multifunctional properties of composite oxides provides an alternative route towards achieving highly stable, high-efficiency photovoltaic solar energy conversion.

1 am pus link , acolo se vad autorii cat si textul in detaliu
2 sunt pe telefon pentru că momentan am PC-ul stricat si mi-e greu să folosesc touch screenul, mai ales ca am un allview cu ecran mic. Asa ca scuze pentru ca n-am putut pune un topic cum trebuie cu toate cerințele unei știri din domeniul științelor.

3 acest topic este despre orice stire notabilă despre cercetătorii români, nu e numai despre Cătălin harnagea.

Abstract Climate change is considered one of the greatest challenges that current biodiversity is facing. Successful adaptation of different species to climate-related changes depends on their ability to follow the habitat shift by modifying their range. We assessed the projected future range changes for a grassland specialist bird using two available climate scenarios. The model subject, the Lesser Grey Shrike (Lanius minor), is a vulnerable grassland specialist, distributed in southeastern Europe, with its European population concentrated in Romania. We created a distribution model for the species using data provided by the national Common Bird Monitoring Programme for the years 2002–2005. Several different statistical models, based on the generalised linear model and multivariate adaptive regression splines, were tested with use of the available habitat and climate data. The final working model was selected by means of the lowest root mean square error from the cross-validation process. The model was tested against two climate scenarios—A1 (integrated world, rapid economic growth) and B2 (regional development, environmentally friendly scenario)—on a long-term (2050) scale. To assess the efficiency of site-based conservation (Natura 2000 sites) as the only tool currently in place for the preservation of Lesser Grey Shrike populations in Romania, we evaluated the mean changes in suitable habitats inside the national protected area network. The projected changes show large-scale reduction of suitable habitats, both inside protected areas and at the national level, due to the forecasted shifts in grassland belts. Our results show that under both scenarios, two thirds of the seminatural grasslands will be out of the recent protected area system by 2050. Small protected areas will lose more habitats than larger ones, irrespective of the Lesser Grey Shrike populations breeding therein. These results suggest that current site-based protection measures will become largely insufficient for the conservation of seminatural grasslands and the associated flora and fauna in the long term in Romania.

The Gamma Beam System of ELI-Nuclear Physics is a high brilliance monochromatic gamma source based on the inverse Compton interaction between an intense high power laser and a bright electron beam with tunable energy. The source, currently being assembled in Magurele (Romania), is designed to provide a beam with tunable average energy ranging from 0.2 to 19.5 MeV, rms energy bandwidth down to 0.5 % and flux of about 1 0 8 photons/s. The system includes a set of detectors for the diagnostic and complete characterization of the gamma beam. To evaluate the spatial distribution of the beam a gamma beam profile imager is required. For this purpose, a detector based on a scintillator target coupled to a CCD camera was designed and a prototype was tested at INFN-Ferrara laboratories. A set of analytical calculations and Monte Carlo simulations were carried out to optimize the imager design and evaluate the performance expected with ELI-NP gamma beam. In this work the design of the imager is described in detail, as well as the simulation tools used and the results obtained. The simulation parameters were tuned and cross-checked with the experimental measurements carried out on the assembled prototype using the beam from an x-ray tube.

O cercetare a ioanei craiciu si andrei faraon in domeniul tehnologiei fotonice
Rare-earth ions in crystals are a proven solid-state platform for quantum technologies in the ensemble regime and attractive for new opportunities at the single ion level. Among the trivalent rare earths, ${}^{171}\mathrm{Yb}^{3+}$ is unique in that it possesses a single 4f excited-state manifold and is the only paramagnetic isotope with a nuclear spin of 1/2. In this work, we present measurements of the optical and spin properties of $^{171}$Yb$^{3+}$:YVO$_4$ to assess whether this distinct energy level structure can be harnessed for quantum interfaces. The material was found to possess large optical absorption compared to other rare-earth-doped crystals owing to the combination of narrow inhomogeneous broadening and a large transition oscillator strength. In moderate magnetic fields, we measure optical linewidths less than 3 kHz and nuclear spin linewidths less than 50 Hz. We characterize the excited-state hyperfine and Zeeman interactions in this system, which enables the engineering of a $\Lambda$-system and demonstration of all-optical coherent control over the nuclear spin ensemble. Given these properties, $^{171}$Yb$^{3+}$:YVO$_4$ has significant potential for building quantum interfaces such as ensemble-based memories, microwave-to-optical transducers, and optically addressable single rare-earth-ion spin qubits.

The emergence of pathogenic multidrug-resistant bacteria demands new approaches in finding effective antibacterial agents. Synthetic flavonoids could be a reliable solution due to their important antimicrobial activity. We report here the potent in vitro antibacterial activity of ClCl-flav—a novel synthetic tricyclic flavonoid. The antimicrobial effects were tested using the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), time kill and biofilm formation assays. Fluorescence microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were employed to study the mechanism of action. MTT test was used to assess the cytotoxicity of ClCl-flav. Our results showed that Gram positive bacteria were more sensitive (MIC = 0.24 μg/mL) to ClCl-flav compared to the Gram negative ones (MIC = 3.9 μg/mL). We found that our compound showed significantly enhanced antibacterial activities, 32 to 72-fold more active than other synthetic flavonoids. ClCl-flav showed bactericidal activity at concentrations ranging from 0.48 to 15.62 μg/mL. At twice the MIC, all Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae cells were killed within 1 h. Also ClCl-flav presented good anti-biofilm activity. The mechanism of action is related to the impairment of the cell membrane integrity. No or very low cytotoxicity was evidenced at effective concentrations against Vero cells. Based on the strong antibacterial activity and cytotoxicity assessment, ClCl-flav has a good potential for the design of new antimicrobial agents.
