L-am instalat si eu astazi, e singura distributie care mi-a detectat placa video si a folosit driver-ul corect (RadeonHD). N-am reusit sa instalez driverul pentru Speedtouch, am incercat mai multe metode dar niciuna nu a functionat.

Imi pare rau ca n-am putut sa vad faimosul NetPkg v4 in actiune.

Un RC va iesi Vineri 30.05.2008.
Versiunea RC sper sa iti rezolve problema.

The long awaited ZENWALK 5.2 is now AVAILABLE.

In the 4 months since the last release many enhancements have been made. The Zenwalk GNU/Linux OS brings to its users both the latest stable software, a well polished Desktop and an ever-increasing software repository.

What's new or improved in Zenwalk 5.2?

The Zenwalk 5.2 release includes nearly 500 changes to software packages including a broad sweeping number of updated software, bug fixes and enhanced replacements for some software. Notable updates include the Linux kernel version 2.6.25.4 and the Xfce Desktop 4.4.2.

An Improved package manager: Netpkg "new generation" is now at version 4 and has been completely rewritten in Perl-GTK. This new version introduces many Improvements: better layout, treelike view of packages, many help pop-ups, ultra-intuitive user interface, automatic colorization of icons depending on the status of each package; full internationalization of the user interface; real-time recursive dependency computing, and full-text search.

Improved Multimedia support: Mplayer is now provided with the latest dvdnav (DVD menus support). The Brasero CD/DVD burning software has now completely replaced the nautilus-cd-burner and comes with many new features. Zenwalk also now ships with the latest version of the Pidgin Instant messaging client, Gtkam photo viewing software and version 2.4.6 of the GIMP which provides a complete set of tools for both the hobbiest and professional digital artists alike.

Refined system power usage: Suspend and resume functions have been improved.

The beautiful and well polished XFCE desktop has been refreshed with new artwork.

The Xorg Xserver is at a mature version 7.3 and includes the latest stable versions of all related software and drivers, including new support for blue-tooth input devices.

Source repository : many faithful users asked us to provide an online source repository rather than sending source Dvds on-demand. So we have been working on a mechanism to allow the development team to instantly publish source tarballs for any new package we release. This source repository is now 100% ready for ISO packages, and the contributed packages (aka "extra") source repository is being populated actively.

Vorbeste de intreg:
Cat de repede se instaleaza si cat de repede lanseaza aplicatiie.
Ca sa nu mai vorbim de resursele consumate.
Vorbim de o distributie care are vitesa per total, incepand de la instalare la compilare.
Si cred ca este printre putinele distributii care merg foarte bine, mai ales la capitolul viteza.

In privinta Zenwalk , este rapid , doar se trage din Slackware DAR nu se pot compara Tatal ramane tata

Zenwalk e 100% Slackware. E pur. Are alta filozofie, vine cu un package manager, un repo mult mai bogat si o comunitate destul de vanjoasa.
Si ca interfata are XFce in loc de KDE, insa are in repo si KDE.

Zenwalk e un slackware prietenos optimizat pt viteza.
Distributie ce se vrea a fi OS, si nu o distributie asa cum sunt restul distributilor linux.
De aici si faptul ca un slackware default nu are cum sa intreaxa viteza acestei distributii.
