World’s first Walkman® phone raises the bar for mobile entertainment - The Sony Ericsson W800 brings high quality digital music to the mass market
01 March 2005

London – Sony Ericsson today kick-started its entry into the mobile music market with the announcement of the W800, the first Walkman® branded mobile phone. It will now be possible to listen to music, handle phone calls and take great pictures and video, all with one device and with no compromise on quality. The Sony Ericsson W800 is the first product to combine a mobile phone, a high quality digital music player with up to 30 hours’ battery life, and a 2 Megapixel camera. All of this is packaged in a slim, lightweight device with ultra-stylish design.

”We looked carefully at what people want from a mobile digital music player and have designed a product that fits the bill,” says Rikko Sakaguchi, Senior Vice President, Product and Application Planning of Sony Ericsson. “The W800 has great sound quality, is easy to use, has superb battery life and can store a large amount of music. It’s an attractive, desirable device that combines high quality phone, camera, music and games player.”

Sony’s world famous Walkman® mobile music heritage makes the W800 a serious contestant in the digital music player market. Sound quality is excellent. The W800 is supplied with quality stereo headphones and it is compatible with the proven, industry standard MP3 and AAC music file formats. Storage capacity is also plentiful as the supplied 0,5GB Memory Stick Duo gives capacity for around 150 music tracks, or 10-12 full length CDs from the user’s existing CD collection. And loading music into the player is a breeze thanks to the supplied Disk2Phone software, which enables quick, convenient transfer of music CD’s onto the phone via a PC. Keeping the collection up to date is no trouble at all as the software makes it easy to browse, sort, find, transfer and delete music files.

The W800’s intuitive interface makes it a breeze to use the music player and the functionality of phone, music player and camera are carefully integrated. Also, owners need never miss a call when listening to music, as the phone ring is played through the stereo headphones. If the user chooses to take the call the music is paused for the call’s duration. The music player is operated with just one Direct Music button that plays, pauses and stops tracks, and player and phone can be used independently of each other, so for example the user can switch the phone off for a plane journey while still enjoying the music player.

Battery life is a key consideration for owners and the W800’s battery has enough stamina for the longest journeys – it will play for 15 hours’ if the phone is switched on, or up to 30 hours if it isn’t.

Although weighing in at less than 100g, the W800 also offers a 2 Megapixel camera complete with autofocus, picture light, active lens cover and digital still camera interface, so great photos can be taken in a variety of conditions.

Users can extend their use of the W800 with useful accessories such as the MMC-60 Music Cable which connects the device to play out on a stereo hi-fi, and the HCA-60 Advanced Car Handsfree which allows music to be played through car speakers.

The W800 will come in the following variants:

W800i Triple Band 900/1800/1900 MHz
W800c Triple Band 900/1800/1900 MHz for China Mainland

Walkman® is the registered trademark of Sony Corporation

Astept Nokia 6230i. Cum apare cum il iau. 100%.

Daca stai sa te gandesti ca are memory stick duo pro inclus, de 512, ca are camera de 2 megapixeli, ecran mare de 262k, inca nu stiu cata memorie interna, si alte tampenii d-astea... intr-adevar este cam mult 300; eu zic ca toate astea + ce am omis eu se incadreaza in 100 $, nu? Intrebare de baraj.
Avand in vedere ca are mp3 player, acesta poate fi folosit si fara sa pornesti telefonul? Adica standalone. ma intereseaza pentru calatoriile cu avionul unde (dupa cum stiti) trebuie sa-ti inchizi telefonul. In cazul in care nu merge, nu e mare branza cu toate ca arata foarte bine.
Daca poti folosi numai playerul ... se schimba treabaaaaaa!

Later edit:

3. Meniul ciudat structurat
4. Profilele
5. Nu are carcase interschimbabile.
6. Camera foto.
7. Senzatia de telefon anti-business.
We're cool smile.gif
Ina
bogdan1978buc
Si daca ma uit eu bine vad ca si asta le are. Restul sunt gusturi care nu se discuta.
Zazie
Ok Bogdan.

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications Press room
A new mobile music era is born as the Sony Ericsson W800i Walkman™ phone hits the shelves in Europe
12 August 2005

Friday 12 August, London, sees digital mobile music being taken to the next level as the first in a new family of Walkman™ phones from Sony Ericsson arrive.

The W800i – a phone that allows people to make calls, listen to music and take great pictures and video anywhere and at any time all with one device.

Hitting the shelves on the 12 August across the EMEA 1) markets, the phone is a stylish deep orange and smooth white handset featuring the familiar Walkman™ logo. It offers an MP3 player capable of storing up to 125 tracks* of digital music or 10-12 albums to be taken from the user’s CD collection via easy-to-use computer software. The W800i also boasts a 2 megapixel, autofocus digital camera together in one pocket-sized mobile device. Also included is Disk2Phone PC software and an USB cable, making it fast and easy to transfer music from CDs to the W800i via a PC (so-called “CD ripping”).

The next addition to the Walkman™ family is the recently announced W550i, which will be available in EMEA markets from the beginning of Q4. This bright, funky phone is primarily aimed at fun seekers who want to combine digital music, imaging and an authentic games console experience in one easy-to-use product. The phone contains enough entertainment features to keep the user occupied when with a group of friends or alone and can also be personalised with a range of Style-Up™ covers. The W550i also features a full internet browser so users can be kept up-to-date on the latest movie schedules or music news.

“Friday, August 12th marks the beginning of an eagerly awaited journey as digital music and mobile telephony combine to enable consumers to enjoy their music without ever missing a call. With good battery life, the robustness of a mobile phone plus music, imaging and voice capability means Walkman™ phones are set to change the face of mobile music forever”, said Stefan Streit, Vice President EMEA Marketing, Sony Ericsson.

As the W800i has music at the heart of the phone, a number of music-focused events are taking place to support the phone’s launch, including a collaboration with none other than music legend - Jamiroquai. Kicking off with a press conference, Jamiroquai’s front man, Jay Kay, revealed the W800i to EMEA journalists at a questions and answer session in London, before going on to perform an exclusive VIP gig to around 700 guests at the Shepherd’s Bush Pavilion. The concert featured tracks from his exciting new album ‘Dynamite’ a month before the artist begins his Sony Ericsson sponsored European Tour.

On the launch day itself, Jay Kay is selling and signing some of the first Walkman™ phones sold at the Oxford Street Carphone Warehouse in London. The first 50 lucky customers also receive a copy of his album ‘Dynamite’.

Jay Kay, said “My first introduction to music on the move was through my old Walkman™ player. The Walkman™ phones combine all the things I look for in a gadget. A phone, so I don’t have to miss any calls, a camera, so I can take pictures while I am on tour, and the best part is that I can listen to my favourite music on the move – everything in one.”

On a global level, Sony Ericsson is compiling ‘The Walkman phones 100’ - the first soundtrack of the world’s favourite songs of all time. Music lovers across the globe are invited to log onto www.walkmanphones100.com to register their top three tracks and the reasons why these songs make up the soundtrack to their life.

Further local launch activity will be taking place across the EMEA Market to support the arrival of the W800i. From partnerships with major music events such as The Moscow Annual Jazz Festival, Ringfest in Cologne and PopKomm in Berlin to securing headline sponsorship at the Sunrise Open Air Fesitival in Portugal and key music clubs in Istanbul throughout the summer.

Launch activity in the UK includes a partnership between Sony Ericsson and Manumission and the Barfly to present ‘Ibiza Rocks,’ a weekly live music series which started in July in Ibiza with an emphasis on the fusion of DJs and bands. Street sampling using personalised W800i breakdancers called the B Boys Breakdance will also be taking place from the 12th August in shopping centres and outdoor venues in nine cities. Both events run until September 2005.

W800i - Tri-Band 900/1800/1900 MHz.

* W800i users can purchase further memory sticks to give unlimited storage.
