Warsaw - Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania are urging a European Union peacekeeping force for breakaway parts of Georgia after Russian troops clashed with Georgian forces, a Polish official said Monday.
Polish President Lech Kaczynski presented the plan on Sunday to his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy, whose country holds the EU's six-month rotating presidency, Piotr Kownacki, a senior aide to Kaczynksi, told Polish Radio.
'The first point of the plan is a truce and ceasefire,' Kownacki said.
He said the plan was initiated by Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko and Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus, in cooperation Kaczynski.
